Public Notice Regarding Expansion of Free 15-Minute Parking Zones & Modification of Credit Card Minimum
On February 15, 2017, Park Harrisburg will expand the Free 15-Minute Parking Zone Program (“Program”) from 4 to 26 zones in the Central Business District (“CBD”). What began as a pilot program in January 2016 that converted select loading zones traditionally reserved for commercial vehicles, has provided the public a convenient way to park for free in designated Program areas.
“This solution was developed based on feedback provided by business owners in the CBD. The solution has been a success, making an expansion of the program the logical next step,” said SP+ Senior Vice President Chris Sherman. “SP+ appreciates the opportunity to work with businesses and Mayor Eric Papenfuse’s office on expanding this program.”
On the same day, Park Harrisburg will also implement a system-wide credit card transaction minimum of $3.00 (1 Hour) for all metered spaces in the Central Business District, and a minimum of $1.50 (1 Hour) for all metered spaces located in the districts of New Midtown, Old Midtown and South of CBD.
The minimum charge will not impact extensions of parking sessions. Additional time for parking sessions exceeding 1 hour may be purchased in 30-minute increments at the rate of $1.50 for spaces in the Central Business District and $0.75 for spaces in New Midtown, Old Midtown and South of CBD.
Meter Rates will not be impacted as part of these changes. All multi-space meters accept quarters should customers elect to purchase time with quarters. In the Central Business District a quarter provides 5 minutes of time and 10 minutes per quarter for meters outside of the Central Business District.
